i loved yoshimoto's kitchen because she made the ordinary feel so magnificent. but i'm realising now that the flipside of her sentimentalism is that she romanticises gross men. the first story was a massive let-down... the male love interest is a misogynist! anyway, let's hope the rest is better because i BOUGHT this, instead of borrowing from the library :(
