I was surprised that Peris decided not to go tho the New Smoke. But, it didn't seem like Tally and Peris were that close anymore so it makes sense that he didn't tell her until the last minute. I am angry at Peris because he kept Tally on the hot air balloon for too long. They were already off the magnetic grid of the city, so now Tally is alone with no hoverboard much farther away from the others than anticipated.

The setting of this book is New Pretty Town in the future. I think this book is very far into the future because they think that "lifters", structures that allow things to be lifted or hover. They are used for hovercars, cars that fly, and elevators. They use a magnetic field to lift. Tally thinks that these are very old, which is a very futuristic invention for right now.

I was surprised that when Croy came to New Pretty Town he didn't come to rescue Tally. Croy didn't come to tell Tally anything important so I still don't know why he would risk getting caught for no reason. I don't think David will come to rescue Tally so I don't know who will. She doesn't seem happy being in her new group of friends, the crims, so maybe she will leave New Pretty Town with Zane.
