A lot to process after reading this intense, wonderful book. I need friends to read it so I can discuss!

"She was an overstrung piano, all the wires about to rupture and spring apart in a dreadful cataclysm of metaphors." After several intense chapters, a humorously overwrought interlude.

So much heartbreak, but I'm loving this.

Atkinson sure can write an intense wartime scene.

"Viola, who had been wandering along the hedgerows in the midst of a potent fantasy that involved both piles of hot buttered toast and Captain Wentworth from Persuasion, was horribly startled." Delightful!

I'm full of anxious anticipation because I so loved LIFE AFTER LIFE. Atkinson's writing is as lovely and witty as ever!
