Interesting introduction to the ‘delirium’ surrounding hieroglyphic/ hieratic interpretation before Champollion. Also interesting chapter on his childhood. Reciting lines of Homer and Virgil at age of 10? Impressive, especially considering he had no formal education. Struggled with arithmetic though so….
