'Heiroglyphic writing is a complex system, a script all at once figurative, symbolic, and phonetic, in one and the same text, in one and the same sentence, and, I might even venture, in one and the same word.'

Items from Egyptian collection at Louvre, looted and still haven't been seen since
How many things have been stolen from the Louvre and are still missing today?

What evidence is there that Egypt was originally monotheistic? And over time adopted more and more gods?
It says Champollion found evidence for this, but doesn’t explain exactly what led him to the conclusion. Except something about one scene from the Book of the Dead. (Feather of truth/Osiris/heart) I wish there had been elaboration!

Ramesses (the book doesn't clarify which, but I think Champollion meant 'the great', whose number I forget ☺️) had a pet lion who went into battle with him, and quite possibly everywhere with him.

'Although he was comfortable financially, his lifestyle was never excessive: he was careful with money, a teetotaller, and had inexpensive habits apart from bookbuying. His chief pleasure was intellectual: to read, to think, to write and occasionally to experiment,'

'the jackal ('dog') hieroglyph writes the name of the god Anubis, who is the ancient Egyptian god of embalming, a smelly business -. A recumbent jackal writes the title of a special type of priest, the 'master of secrets', who would have been a sacred scribe and considered something of a prophet. A striding jackal can also stand for an official, and hence perhaps for a judge.'

The Library of Alexandria was destroyed on purpose. Why?! Why..? 💔
I... I'd always assumed it was an accident.
