"His heart, which seemed to have swollen to an unnatural size, was thumping loudly under his ribs...Twice he looked up at Fudge and opened his mouth to speak, but his swollen heart was now constricting his air passages and both times he merely took a deep breath and looked back at his shoes"(150).

One of the themes of the Order of the Phoenix is that barely anyone believes Harry and Dumbledore that Voldemort is back. "He says he saw Cedric Diggory murdered... He reckons he dueled with You-Know-Who.....Come off it....Who does he thinks he's kidding"(250). They don't believe Harry that he saw and fought Voldemort. That is one of the themes of the Order of the Phoenix.

I used context clues to figure out the word abysmal. "Another Remembrall?" said Harry, remembering the marblelike device Neville's grandmother had sent him in an effort to improve his abysmal memory"(186). I think abysmal means poor because Neville's grandmother wanted to improve it.That is how I used context clues to figure out what abysmal means.
