I think Crozier and Goodsir were a little stupid to believe Golding. I know he wasn't with Hickey's crew (technically) but the fact that hickey had already tried to get Goodsir to go with them (for the purpose of cutting up dead bodies), would make me so suspicious. Golding literally asked for only Crozier and Goodsir (along with Goodsir's surgeon kit :/). Not even a believable lie ("we killed the bear!!" yeah right)

Finished! This book definitely got better towards the end but I did enjoy it overall :)) that last chapter was a little boring, but that's probably just because I don't like epilogues. I'll write a proper review later

This felt like Simmons forgot he was writing a supernatural horror and so quickly shoved some in in the last 200 pages lol. But I'm not complaining because I've actually found it really interesting! I know a lot of people were disappointed with Tuunbaq's origin but I enjoyed it :) if only this stuff was spread throughout the book

Hickey thinking of himself as a God (even capitalising "He" when referring to himself) is very on brand! Too bad he doesn't just realise he's going insane (at least Tuunbaq is about to eat him I think). Not many people left at all

I understand why they're not going looking for Crozier, there's no reason to believe he's still alive. It sucks they're not even going to help Goodsir though, but the book has made it pretty clear he wasn't liked and it probably is better everyone at Crozier's camp gets out while they can :(

I'm really disappointed. I know I shouldn't be comparing this to the tv show too much, but how could I not? Blanky's death scene in the book pales in comparison. There's no argument that Simmons can write, but If I don't even care for the death of a character I like, why would I care about whether they get back home or not? A tiny bit made up with Peglar's chapter (open water found)

Over 600 pages to build up the relationship between Francis and James. Nope instead we're over 2/3 of the way through and I don't particularly care that James is dead. What purpose did he even serve? Honestly I do like this book but Simmons could have tried harder to give the characters personalities

I ran out of room. Also, surely killing Tuunbaq would be something to celebrate! You'd /want/ to share that news with the whole camp! Also Golding is so annoying (but at least he acts different to the rest of the characters lol)
