Every time they call Robert honourable I get flashbacks to Ned Stark. Especially because he's been captured now :/

I know house of the dragon is based on this period. Is harwin strong meant to be brien? It's probably not a good idea to fall in love with your queen

Chapters that make you think about how 400 years later Mary I was given the title "Bloody Mary" despite only killing 300 people, when her dad (Henry VIII) killed over 70,000

At least if Maude is this miserable despite winning, she won't be disappointed when the war drags on for another 13 years

Best chapter yet! I don't usually like battle scenes in books but this was great :D

Everyone she talks to acknowledges how terrible of a husband Geoffrey is but WHAT was Chester saying about his own wife ...

I wish they all had different enough names that wouldn't make me have to also read their titles to know who they actually mean. The name Robert is not that good

Geoffrey acts just as childish as his six year old son. Anyway why am I getting excited for Maude when I know how things go historically and also there's more than 700 pages left

This book spends the first few chapters making you like both stephen and maud and then it leaves you in predicaments like this where you are definitely on maud's side but now you're feeling really sorry for stephen. At least there's always geoffrey to complain about (sadly he did not die)

Finished! This book definitely got better towards the end but I did enjoy it overall :)) that last chapter was a little boring, but that's probably just because I don't like epilogues. I'll write a proper review later

This felt like Simmons forgot he was writing a supernatural horror and so quickly shoved some in in the last 200 pages lol. But I'm not complaining because I've actually found it really interesting! I know a lot of people were disappointed with Tuunbaq's origin but I enjoyed it :) if only this stuff was spread throughout the book

Hickey thinking of himself as a God (even capitalising "He" when referring to himself) is very on brand! Too bad he doesn't just realise he's going insane (at least Tuunbaq is about to eat him I think). Not many people left at all

I understand why they're not going looking for Crozier, there's no reason to believe he's still alive. It sucks they're not even going to help Goodsir though, but the book has made it pretty clear he wasn't liked and it probably is better everyone at Crozier's camp gets out while they can :(

I think Crozier and Goodsir were a little stupid to believe Golding. I know he wasn't with Hickey's crew (technically) but the fact that hickey had already tried to get Goodsir to go with them (for the purpose of cutting up dead bodies), would make me so suspicious. Golding literally asked for only Crozier and Goodsir (along with Goodsir's surgeon kit :/). Not even a believable lie ("we killed the bear!!" yeah right)

There goes Bridgens. Also I don't think a mutiny is happening in the book, there's not much time left for one
