Oh boy it's good now! The first 200 pages sucked coz waaaayy too many characters and storylines (unnecessarily?) but now he's settled on a few and story's moving forward nicely. Like Erikson's, I find the book engaging enough for me to be eager to pick them up, but not so addictive I stay up all night! ;)

It's my first Esslemont book and he definitely writes similarly to Erikson. And I'm totally getting into it now :) that he's focusing on less storylines / characters. It's not a page-turner but I always can't wait to pick it up again. :)

Argh! I'm on page 156 which is substantially into the book and Esslemont is still introducing new characters! The next 30 pages are all new ones! I know that's the common complaint with Erikson's Malazan series but I don't feel he was this bad? I'm trying to motor through to get to parts that further some of the story lines he's started. sigh.
