One day in the June of 1844 Madame Sophie Ducal (née Busson)...went to collect the weekly letter from her daughter in Paris, where she told of meeting a stranger from England at an evening with neighbours in the Fauborg St Germain, a Louis-Mathurin Busson.
Mme Sophie visits Paris, knowing this to be her brother's child.
She meets the man, promises to write, to tell him of his father and family, the glass-blowers.
