I had to take a break from the book. The character Denna was driving me up the wall. She's a bitch, and seriously playing Kvothe. Kvothe is ignorant to her games & it annoys me because he's supposed to be so smart. I just didn't care to read anymore about Kvothe while he was with her. I'll get over my mini-tantrum and continue the book in a day or two.

Kvothe, uh, this patron of Denna, doesn't it like seem a bit suspicious that maybe she could be involved with the Chandrian? How can Kvothe be so dumb but be so smart?

Denna, Denna, Denna, .... wtf? I'm tired of Kvothe's love sick puppy attitude. I don't like Denna and how much work Kvothe goes through to "find" her. Hopefully, she becomes a better character later on.

I really like Kvothe except one minute he is brilliant, the next he is making simple bonehead moves. It is frustrating.

You know you are a book nerd when... you are disappointed that one of your co-workers went with you on a 3 hour business trip because you can't listen to your audiobook!

Deb is going to be a problem. I'm hoping I'm wrong but I'm guessing the fact that Deb has Kvothe's blood, and Ambrose hates him that somehow Ambrose will get a hold of Kvothe's blood? Just a wild guess but that's what I'm thinking.

So is Bast hero worshipping or is there something more? I can't wait for Kvothe's story to move out of the university... a bit dragging here.

I am so annoyed with Kvothe right now. DUH, how could you fall for the trick? You don't bring a candle into a library full of books. Aren't you supposed to be mr. brilliant? Oh, I know, you were all hazy due to whatever numbing drug you were on but come on!!!! And hello? Did you not thinking giving away your last penny to walk into the stacks was a bit high? grrrr

Catherine Hopefully it'll be better then.

Yup... just a momentary hissy fit. I guess its good writing if it makes me feel so much hatred for a character.

Fani *loves angst* Michelle, I have to admit I'm not so sure I want to read/listen to this book anymore. Or is it worth it despite the frustration caused by Denna?

I'm not sure anymore either. I loved the book through the first half of the book. But now, it seems like Kvothe tv- Kvothe all day, 24 hours a day- bad decisions and all. I will admit the author is an incredible writer- he gives the characters such incredible depth that I literally hate particular characters. That in itself speaks volumes.

However, when the majority of the end of this book involves a character I hate, and also involves horrible decisions by a character I like, I no longer have a desire to read the book.

I've invested so much time in the book, and thus will eventually will finish it. But, no, I can't recommend the book any longer. Just being honest. :(

D.G. Wow, Michelle. You've really taken a dislike to Denna.

I didn't like her but I didn't hate her either. Kvothe is so young that I forgive him his mad infatuation. :)

I think I'm frustrated with Kvothe. He is like a typical teen genius- he is brilliant, but lacks common sense. The problem is how oblivious he seems to be. I'll continue to read soon enough but I was too frustrated to continue at this point. I guess I should say this is a great book since it pissed me off so much. Bad books don't make you feel anything except regret for reading it.

Fani *loves angst* These comments don't bode well for me either as I have a very low threshold for stupidity in my characters. I can't stand heroes/heroines who don't see what's right in front of their eyes, no matter the excuses and Kvothe seems to fall in this category. So, I'm pushing it in the back of my TBR list once again:(

I'm going to finish the book this weekend. I'll let you know how it goes.
