“He smiles. I feel it against my skin in the same way I hear his laughter in my head, harsh and mocking. He is letting me know that my actions are his and I am powerless.” Man, this is crazy. I like it. I like this a lot. It's eerie and chilly — the perfect way to set the scene.

“…his tormentors prevented him, stamping at his limbs, kicking at his vulnerable belly, whooping at his grunts of pain. Someone grabbed at his hair and slammed his cheek against the concrete, back and forth. Pain exploded into his temple, his head was hauled back and he felt rough fibres scrape his face as a rope was forced around his neck. He gagged at the stricture.” Things are getting seriously intense now.

“My fear is spiced with the thrill of holding the wild card in an insidious game of truth or dare. I am not a truthful person, it goes against my very nature to reveal my inner core, but I do thrive on risk, the insatiable roller coaster of life and death.”

“What were you doing in Bedlam?” “Running.” “Running from what, from whom?” “Life, death, eternal torment. Take your pick.”

“Two were suspended from the ironwork struts by their throats, not neatly with a rope around their necks, but brutally impaled on the point of a meat hook.” I love the descriptions, they don't hold anything back.
