Informant in Portugal is Evelyn wanting save passage to England. Dair writes letter to brother in code with news to lay trap for mole he thinks is Watkins. Rory's grandfather refuses to let them marry.

Antonia blackmails Rory's grandfather into letting her marry Dair. They have wonderful wedding and are both nervous. Letter with black seal arrived w/ Lady Strasthsay it likely says the 2nd earl is dead. Julian locks it into a drawer, giving Antonia the key and says to come back in a month so they won't ruin the wedding or honeymoon. Don't know about traitor or about Evelyn... have to read next book.

At Treat, Dair glimpses Rory swimming nude. He fears still water since his father drowned him at 10 in a lake. He confesses this to Rory; and they discuss compatibility in a spouse. More kissing & groping. She panics when he touches her leg. He realized he wants to marry her. She has plan to overcome his fear.

Their kiss is interrupted. Watkins tries to force a betrothal with Rory. Dair tackles him after he harms Rory, but doesn't hit him until Watkins tries to hit Dair with Rory's walking stick.

Rory gets brother to take her to physic garden. She is invited to young Jamie's birthday feast and meets Lily Banks. Dair arrives travel worn. Rory notices his tan and concludes that he has been in Spain not in the tower, he is a spy, and the charges are for a cover story. He carries Rory back then they stop and kiss. First, short and sweet, then again passionately.

Dare being sent to Portugal to discover spy inside their organization. Story is that he is in Tower being investigated for treason since his brother was a traitor and fled to France with Kinross's daughter. Rory loved the episode at studio and is now saddened that Dare was so drunk as to remember nothing.

Dare and 2 buddies stage a mock Indian attack on dancing girls in a painters studio. Harvey, with a shortened buckskin, is seen by his Lady wife and Dare crashes into Rory. He steals a kiss and loves bantering with her and offers to make her his mistress. Harvey loses buckskin and fails to escape soldiers who arrive to take Dare. Lady wife faints and won't talk to Harvey. Dare is sworn to silence by spymaster Earl.
