One thing so far was predictable. But everything else, not at all! This book is keeping me surprised.

This book is so magical! It's got some familiar-feeling mythology, but then the familiar turns into something completely unexpected. It's very absorbing -- I hate getting pulled out of this world and Hannah's mystery.

This book isn't very long, but the world is so imaginative and the writing so beautiful that I'm not reading very fast. The author doesn't write down to her young audience, and there are words I'm having to look up!

This story is very unusual. I can guess at a little bit of where it might be going, but the set-up is original and the writing is complex (especially for a middle-grade/young YA book). I'm very intrigued by Hannah and her relationship to the Wood.

Bibliothecat I'm curious, what did you find predictable? 😊

Eilonwy (view spoiler)

I picked this up because of your review, and am so glad I did! I love the writing and this complicated story.

Oooh yes, I know what you mean!
And I'm glad to hear that you like it so far! I'll be curious to hear your thoughts when you are done!
I plan on reading another series by this author later in the year. I wouldn't have picked it up for its own merit but this particular book made me want to explore more works of this author 🙃

Eilonwy I can't believe I never heard of this author before. I really wish I had read this book when I was a kid -- it's so vivid and imagination-feeding! I'll be very interested in seeing what you think of the series, Which one are you going for?
