This is moving quickly, and has depth I was not expecting. The moments of Mikey missing his mother are really getting to me. And the way he keeps a figurative arm extended to maintain distance from any authentic relationships feels believable. The mystery clues are a bit contrived, but I'm enjoying this enough not to feel critical about that.

I almost chucked this at the beginning because the third person-present tense writing style felt really clunky, but now I'm used to it and the story is turning into an enjoyable mix of tense and silly.

What's with making it so Goodreads members can't message each other directly? The ability to do that has been one of my favorite features. Does anyone know why that would be taken away from us?

Is anyone else having trouble adding books to their Currently Reading shelf? I've tried multiple times today and nothing happens!

I love Samantha's voice. And I'm also fond of bugs and vultures. And you can't go wrong with T. Kingfisher, right? I thought it might be fun to read something creepy for October, but I keep worrying that this is going to turn too scary for me.

I was stuck at a doctor's office and so glad I had a good book to read! I'm far enough in that now I really want to see how these two timelines will intersect.

This is entertaining enough that I keep reading. But Harsha kind of lacks personality and is just a little bit mean to Veer -- not intentionally, I don't think, but it's still a bit off-putting. Veer at least has more of a sense of humor so his POVs are a little more enjoyable.

Hmmm. I'm not sure about this heroine and her willingness to lie to people, no matter what she sees as pressure from her family. I'll see if this grows on me.

Wow, somebody really has it in for Nura and her dating service. I wasn't expecting quite such serious sabotage.

The one thing I can't figure out is, if John is still the vicar in Castle Knoll, how is it that (a) Annie has not gone to visit him to see what he's like, and (b) he has not come to the manor to discuss funeral arrangements or anything like that? He's a big gaping vacuum in this story.

The plot is a bit contrived -- more than usual for a mystery -- but the story is decently entertaining. I'm zooming along.

This is surprisingly good! I was expecting something fluffier, but this is steeped in sorrow, with some really deep moments. And it's gripping enough that I'm reading in every spare moment I can find.

I found this in a parkside Little Library and it seems up my alley. So far I'm enjoying the multiple character POV chapters and sailing along.

I'm not sure it's a great time to be reading a book describing what happened during the Maoist Revolution, considering what's going on in the US right now. There are some chilling parallels. But I'm really enjoying this unusual memoir otherwise.

I'm reading this out of sequence, and missed a major plotline from the earlier books. But at the same time, I'm feeling just as glad about that because it sounded really soapy. I'm not sure I'm hearing the Sarah Booth voice I liked so much in the latest books yet in this one, either. But the mystery is intriguing so far.

Sheesh, I couldn't get this to show up under either the title or the author and had to resort to the ISBN. But here it is!

I'm having a little trouble telling the difference between Martha's and Henry's voices, but their stories are interesting and they are both very sweet. Opaline is feeling like more of a mystery.

This is the definition of the slow burn. Are Natalie and Rob ever actually getting together?
I like the story -- it's sweet, insightful, touching, and funny, and I really love the friend-love plot between Natalie and Gabby -- but at the same time, these 18-month jumps between installments are leaving me feeling a bit disconnected from the story.

I need more clarification. What about Neil's Native characters makes them "palatable" to white readers, and what about Pen's Native characters makes them so threatening to white folks? Neil writes horror for Pete's sake, so how accurate is that supposed to be about anyone? Pen and Neil keep bickering about representation, but the details are so lacking that these arguments are happening in a vacuum for me.
