I think, intended to be whimsy, Holly comes off as selfish & immature. I'm not sold on her as a person. That being said, the development of the characters in such a short time -- 27 pages -- is a remarkable fête by Capote. It feels like sitting down with an old friend Robeson about this thing that happened once.

"You're wrong. She is a phony. But on the other hand you're right. She isn't a phony because she's a real phony. She believes the crap she believes." This doesn't make me like the Holly character more, but it helps me understand, I guess.
