I just realized I have the author's other book "Banished" and I didn't even realize it was the same author. Oops!

Liked it. Had problems with pacing but otherwise, a very good book. Review coming soon.

What is Smoke's game? He's all into Cass, but why? He is acting all selfless but I'm suspect?

It is an interesting read. It has action, a good story, good characters but then it falters every so often and seems almost tedious to read.

I love how this book goes from gore to an intimate (mother/ daughter type) conversation between Cass (main character) and Sammi (young restless teen who keeps leaving the secured area)

on a search for her daughter. On occasion, Cass will be thinking about something in her past but that transition won't be super smooth. I don't even realize she is talking about something that happened in the past until I realize something is not making sense. Maybe it is ARC ebook copy, I'm not sure?

Cass is just meeting Smoke. I like him. He isn't judgemental. Cass has been through Hell and back!

"His teeth closed on the damaged flesh & pulled, the raw layers of dermis pulling away from his arm, stretching & then splitting, a shred of flesh about the size of a match tearing away, leaving a bright, tiny spot of blood that glistened and pooled into a larger drop." Yummie!

thump, thump <-- my heart while reading this. For some reason, zombie books make my heart race. I can read lots of gore, horror, suspense, graphic everything. Give me a zombie book and I can't calm my scared ass down!
