Shortly before arriving at Kurtz's station the boat is getting attacked by natives. When they arrive at the station Marlowe asks the Russian sailor who awaited them "Why did the attack us?" "They don't want him to go." is the answer. Obviously Kurtz has brought his analysis that Western people are like deities for the natives, into reality.

The narrator was appointed captain of a ship connecting British trading posts on the banks of Kongo river. After a long repair of the boat he finally sets sail for the utmost fore post held by the mysterious Kurtz.
