The book shows that Wes is exhausted because of Marie's death because it says "He looked exhausted, as though climbing the stairs had taken all his energy. His face was pale, and he simply stood still for a moment, his back against the basement door." After that he starts drinking alcohol.

I was shocked When i found out he has an entire arsenal of guns with a Automatic .22, a .410 shotgun, another .22, and a 30-30 hunting rifle.

Living in Montana sound horrible in the beginning of the book the author describes how horrid and barren Montana is. He says "The heat and thunderstorms are brutal in summer and the winters are legendary for there fierceness of there blizzards and the depth to which the temperature drops." Making it sound awful and the other ways the author describes it makes it sound worse than it already is.
