In chapter 17 I found it so heroic and funny how Peng and the Cellist had saved Da's life because they saw that his crap was black. Even though Peng or the cellist had never interacted with Da before they still saved him by giving him the medicine to stop the internal bleeding which I thought was very heroic.

After reading that Bo killed himself I was very sad and very upset at how the school treated the situation like he deserved to die. I found it appalling how awful the schools reaction to it was and how they didn't even think on what had made him kill himself. I also always enjoyed Bo character just because he dreamed big and his energy was mostly positive and that's why i found it sad.

Chapter thirteen begins with Da Chen referencing the situation of China at the time, comparing a dog's litters fighting over milk to what's happening in China's where Chinese people fight each other and stab others in the back to the road of success in a world of continuous work and the author make sure we were aware of this even in the peaceful village of Yellowstone.

The book is very enjoyable and how the author has interacted with other characters in the book it enjoyable because the author is very much a country person to heart and he has to interact with people who have lives in the big city since they were born and the differences between them is interesting.

The book starts with the author getting a train in china to attend college in Beijing. He met an interpreter who has gone to the Asian games and I feel like he could be the role model for Chen in this story. The author's pride for china is shown when he first arrives in Beijing and sees the Chinese flag waving in the wind.

I think it's interesting how the author had to change most people's names for there privacy. I also think is obvious how much his brother loves him by his reaction when he was leaving and how sad they both were at the beginning of the book.

I'm surprised Nadia's father had such a reaction when he found out Nadia got an abortion when they enter Mr. Sheppard’s office, the pastor asks them to sit, but Robert says, “No. You don’t give me orders. She was just a girl, you son of a bitch, and you knew what your boy had done to her.” pastor says, “It was handled, Robert,” but Nadia’s father presses on, accusing the pastor of forcing her to have an abortion.

its shocking nobody makes anything of the fact that Nadia had Luke’s watch, but the Mothers understand that the object was a telltale sign of their affair. The Mothers reveal that Aubrey finally becomes pregnant with a baby girl, they assert that “the weight of what has been lost is always heavier than what remains.” because the baby will most likely hear the story of Nadia and Luke sooner or later.

Im suprised that Luke and Nadia are dating each other behind Aubrey's back which I don't think is right and it is unfair to Aubrey who is also dating luke but i'm more surprised Nadia and Luke think it's fine because it's a "secret relationship" but thats what they keep telling each themselves and i think there hurting themselves by trying to feel not guilty about it.

I'm not surprised that Nadia goes to michigan to go to college. But i'm surprised that there is “a sly type of racism” that runs throughout the university’s culture. Because you would normally not hear about racism in college culture that's why it was so surprising.

Since nadia abortion its apparent that Luke has been thinking about it because the book tells us that Luke has been distracted at work and has been constantly dropping plate and bowls and has been sluggish and distracted around his workplace. This shows that luke has been thinking about about her and the abortion.

I think it ironic how the Upper Room protested the very same abortion clinic that Nadia has now visited as a patient. Although the church is not the kind of religious place that constantly makes public statements but protested it for 3 days.

After reading about how Nadia mother dies I get why she would not like being around others because they think happiness offends her so there being very forgiving and not really telling jokes around her because they think that they will offend her.

In the first chapter they say that church folk gossip which is something i did not expect to read because when i think of churches, gossiping is not something that comes to mind. I think of a church of being sacred and holy and they keep to themselves so hearing that they gossip was unexpected.

on page 161 it's obvious that he does not want to be in Lahore because he wants to continue living in America because how much better it was. But he had gotten fired from his job and his visa will soon be invalid so he had no choice but to go home back to Lahore.

On page 139 i'm confused in the reason why Changez would point out the gun in the man's pocket which he says" a bulge manifests itself through the lightweight fabric of your suit, precisely at the point parallel to the sternum." Then after saying that he backpedals. in that he did not mean it that way by saying"please do not adjust your position on my account! I did not mean to imply that you were so equipped."

On page 124 Changez has to adjust to Lahore because he had been living in america for so long he says"He was struck at first by how shabby our house appeared." after that he tells us the other problems with the house because when he lived in America he had none of those problems and now that he's back in Lahore he really see the difference between his living arrangements in New York and how he was living in lahore.

On Page 80, the author makes in obvious that Changez cares for Erica a lot because Changez he notices every subtle detail of Erica when she leaves the taxi like if maybe she was crying and that she looked more elegant and older and Changez thinks that might be how she will look someday. this just shows that he cares a lot for her.

In chapter 2 when we are introduced to the character Erica and her relationship with changez it is amazing how the author uses such subtle details to show how Erica slowly opens up to Changez in there vacation to Greece.

The perspective of us being the american where our minds answer the question being asked is such a quirky aspect of the story that makes it unique and a enjoyable story to read because it makes up feel like we are in the story.

In the first chapter it really struck me during the interview with Jim because sometimes I do the same thing I will freeze up or get frustrated when people start to ask the hard questions. It hard to swallow your pride when asked those kinda questions. It hurts and it hard to admit to whatever that question is asking.

The book shows that Wes is exhausted because of Marie's death because it says "He looked exhausted, as though climbing the stairs had taken all his energy. His face was pale, and he simply stood still for a moment, his back against the basement door." After that he starts drinking alcohol.
