So, I'm reading Hesse's _The Glass Bead Game_ now, plan to follow it up with Mann's _Doctor Faustus_, Gass' _Middle C_, and finally Powers' _Orfeo_. Is there another major music/artist/philosophy book I'm missing here? I'd prefer to read at least 5 novels flirting/fuguing around the same theme.

2666 may sort of fall into that... the search for an elusive philosophical author....

I was thinking more of the composer/musician as philosopher/thinker theme. I will also be reading 2666 this year, but the music piece is a big part of this set for me.
Yeah, drawing a blank in that category, all my favorite musician as philosopher books are non-fiction.
