Not loving this, I think it plods. The Irish quartet isn't nearly as suspenseful anymore and the blown up cast of characters elsewhere are used to little effect. Lots of bureaucracy and factions that aren't particularly interesting.

Not sure why the priest would offer clothing and shoes and then make a half-hearted attempt to stab O'Neill, especially because O'Neill doesn't think it was just a warning to go and not come back. Hrm.

Short chapters make this fly, even though it's a tome. All the Ireland references seem a bit forced, sort of like Herbert went there on vacation and decided to name drop everything he remembered and then some.
