I find that Thomas meeting Teresa is a bit of a cliché. Boy knows of a girl next door and can't talk to her because of a rule.

So far Thomas has made more friends, started on the maze, and got in trouble. He got sent to a place called the "Crank Pits". "Cranks" are people who have completely lost it and are "animals consumed by bloodlust"(Dashner 112).

The first couple chapters are of the protagonist, Stephen, in a facility that's trying to get him to change his name to Thomas. He refuses for, what the author tells us, weeks. To make him change his name they put him through torture. The scientist responsible for this, Randall, isn't seen for years after and Thomas doesn't know where he went. What do you think happened to him? Why?
