carol. afterword? I'll have to go see what you mean.

some nonsensical BS about some anon's encounters with paarfi and gods playing poker, like... ? wtf? it's like you're at a funeral and a clown car pulls up and unloads clowns that start passing out tacos. completely destroys the mood of the ending. how the editor didn't cut it off and throw it in the trash is beyond me.

carol. Ah. I wonder sometimes. He seems very stubborn. I can imagine the battle. :)

Daniel I could excuse it as matching bookends to go with the Paarfi pretense if it offered some kind of world-building insight on the Dragaeran gods, but it's if any such was present I missed it (I admit to getting more and more skimmy as the pages went on). Felt more like indulging his love of poker and some faux philosophical wankery.

I'm probably just annoyed because I'm tired and it spoiled the ending for me a bit.

carol. Well, being tired doesn't help. The Paarfi conceit often annoyed me. I don't think it adds very much.

Daniel The Paarfi stuff does get a bit much at times, but it's really the only sort of breaking the fourth wall sort of thing I can stand and I often find it quite funny. It's funny to me to see people complaining about it being too wordy when the very wordiness is the joke and I'm usually the one arguing stuff ought to be trimmed by at least a third.

I do notice he backed off a bit on the "oh, did you want me to tell you?" "I've been asking nothing less for an hour!" stuff in the second book.

As for Paarfi himself, it's very much dependent on pulling off the voice I think, and Brust goes a bit too meta here in trying to have a once further removed commentator commenting on Paarfi.

I'm thinking Desolation will be up next, but I may not start anything tonight. I should try to get to bed earlier than I have been. Supposed to get my first vaccine dose tomorrow.

carol. Good for you. Hydrate.

Yes, the "I'vebeenaskingnothingless" was a chore at times, especially have it in the main text as well.
