I haven't read much farther than I read last time so not much has changed. But, Xiomara is currently at a party that she is not supposed to be at, so I predict that her mom will eventually find this out and she will be in a ton of trouble.

Today I went back and re-read parts of this book to find evidence for my essay. I found lots of good quotations and points to use. Going back to the beginning of the book really helped me find more evidence for what I was looking for which is women and womens bodies with society and men. This book does a good job of being blunt about what happens and doesn't sugarcoat anything about what women experince.

In today's reading I finished the book. I really liked how the book ended because I feel like after all the chaos and all the hurt that was going on in Xiomara's life that the book still ended in a calm way that left the reader with a sense of hope. The ending of the book showed how Xiomara and her mom were trying to heal their relationship and how she did the slam poetry which are both steps in the right direction.

After Xiomara's mom took her poems and ruined them and Xiomara ran away she came back and hugged her mom and felt calm and love. I guess I just don't understand how she can still feel that way for her mom even after all she's done to hurt her. It just shows how strong she is as a person and how far she has come from the start of the book. Overall, I am still seeing the same story line patterns within the book.

I didn't move forward in my book today because I was super ahead, but again I still have the same thoughts and feelings about this book. I think that the overall point of the book is very easy to catch on to. I still think this is a good book to read especially if you have a hard time understanding or seeing issues that women go through. Overall, this book is good but not super complex.

I am still noticing how this book still doesn't feel like a poetry book in some parts of it. In a lot of the book it just feels like I am ready a normal book which is why this book reads so quickly. I also feel like it has been somewhat predictable. Now that I am close to being done with the book I can say that it is good but not what I expected.

Xiomara's mom like I predicted found out about Aman. It made me realize how harsh and strict some people's parents can be, especially over things that should be considered normal but instead her mom sees everything she does as sinful. Part of me wonders if it is just because she's a woman.

Awhile ago I predicted that Xiomara's mom would find out about Aman. This prediction came true today while I was reading and it's really concerning to see how scary and how harsh her mom is about it. It is really unfair for Xiomara to be treated this way by her mom over something that is completely normal. It is definitely more of a window for me because my parents aren't strict about that stuff but hers are.

I am predicting that Xiomara's mom is going to find out about her and Aman. Recently they decided to skip class together and they seem to be caring less and less about who knows about them. Xiomara's mom is extremely strict about boys so I will be interested to know what would happen if she does end up find out about Aman.

So far in this book I am still noticing a trend of what the overall message of the book is. I still see it as trying to show how different growing up a female is and how unfairly the world can treat you sometimes. I predict that in the book Xio and Aman will get closer and continue to develop a relationship, but I have a feeling Xio will get shamed for it.
