This book is a novel of manners plus small bits of magic performed by a grumpy, disagreeable, miser of a magician named Mr. Norrell. His great sin, as far as I can tell, is that he's amassed a massive library of books in order that others may not borrow them. He's an anti-library! And that is a dark mark upon the soul.
