Great foreword by Timandra Whitecastle examining the true meaning of who is the hero.

"Ulroc's Redemption" from Ben Galley was great fantastical gangster boxing fun...until the uninspired denouement after a predictable climax. Disappointing after all the ingenuity preceding.

Ups n downs in this one.
Peloquin's tale features a worthy hero in a predictable tale that dragged on and on.
Sullivan wrote another fun escapade in his duo's adventures, though after much buildup it sort of tapered to an insufficient end.
Kang wrote a rather cool tale with two promising characters, then turned it into a question fest and advertisement for a novel.

"Small Teachers" by Jeffrey Hall was a teaching story and a good read. Liddle is definitely a hero and the right one for the job.

First story was great ("Half-breed," Joe Jackson), & really enjoyed Dyrk Ashton's short based in his PATERNUS world, though very glad I'd read the trilogy first, as these characters were so full-fleshed for me & truly rendered. It seems to me someone reading this without that background benefit wouldn't garner the same joy & satisfaction though, which admittedly is difficult to achieve with shorts in larger works.
