First and foremost, a dystopian extrapolation of the extreme edges of modern politics: neo-fascists maneuvering through the guise of pseudo-christian stability and order, and the small underground rebellion trying their best to fight it. Given the political circus of our modern world, Shirley's scenario reads like a nightmare alt-reality we could all trip into if we forget to keep our eyes open.

Book Three starts off with invented and enhanced politicians before moving quickly into the "chipping" chapter comprised of Shirley's short story, Wolves of the Plateau.
This story and some of these ideas feel far closer to the cyberpunk most people know, so I'm curious how this third book plays out using these ideas.

This goes everywhere, and through a wide variety of characters. Future dystopian revolution and politics, with that subtle edge of the punk from cyberpunk. So far, if Blomkamp's Elysium was a television series, this would be it. This was probably an influence on that film. Strange to be reading an "older" book that has been updated--this works, but I'd almost prefer to feel the original.
