Characters in this book have no firm beliefs. They're staunch, close-minded supporters of one principle - typically a Christian one - when the writer can't think of a way to naturally introduce conflict, and then, when the writer wants them to, they act in a completely different manner with zero thought for their previous stance and beliefs! They're all a bunch of weathervanes!

The hypocrisy of many of these characters is incredibly obnoxious. And why did we have to read 100 pages of Igraine establishing her character, principles, and beliefs if the next time we saw her, she'd abandoned ALL of it for absolutely zero reason? She spends the first chunk of the book affirming her faith in the Goddess and reviling Christianity, then turns into a mewling, brainless nun at the drop of a hat!
