Patriarchy defines what femininity is but at the same time, it also perpetuates the traditional expression of masculinities.

I wish John Stephens had used terms other than "New Age Boy, Old Age Boy and Mommy's Boy." Subjective agency is interesting but his writing style is far too convoluted as though he is always conscious that he is an academic and must at all times sound like one.

Nodelman's essay is pretty illuminating on some of the more dominant attitudes about masculinity.
