OJ had miscalculated, made a terrible mistake. It was one thing to beat Nicole behind closed doors and have people suspect it. It was quite another to commit himself in writing, for everyone to see, a ruthless threat to report the mother of his children to the IRS.

Despite everything he’d done to her - the beatings, the humiliation, the other women, the ruthless manipulation of her friends and family in order to isolate her - Nick had absorbed it like a thoroughbred. But now, OJ had attacked the most precious core of her being: the children she adored... Now OJ was fucking with a tigress, and she’d rip his heart out if he came one step closer to her cubs.

What the hell was it with OJ? Silly question. He wanted to control the guys so they would control their women and isolate Nicole so she’d be more dependent on him.

OJ on reporting Nicole to the IRS for tax fraud: “It’s because she doesn’t want to be with me anymore. I want her to be in as much pain as possible. Without me, she’s nothing. Let her live in reality for a while so she’ll appreciate how good she had it with me.”

We don’t need a masterclass in abuse to understand what’s going on.

“Not all men are as possessive as OJ, but most are judgmental. If they have an affair or even a casual encounter, they’re just being men. But if a woman does exactly the same thing, she’s - you name it - a whore, a slut, basically a bad human being... But I do believe that as women evolve and learn to be their own personal and control their own destinies, they will no longer buy into this philosophy.”

OJ: You heard me. If she’s with another man, I’ll kill her. You tell her she’s better play her role and look like my wife..

Nicole: OJ never talked to the shrink about abuse at all. But I’m not surprised...It would make him look bad - and God forbid OJ should ever look bad to strangers. That’s when I decided the whole thing is hopeless. OJ is never going to change... If I’m with him, and I complain about his women, he’s going to beat me. And maybe someday he’ll beat me to death.”

After a man beats you, in many cases, what he does next is to “mind-fuck” you into believing that this was a “one-time only loss of control” and that “it will never happen again”. In some cases, like mine, it was true. But in Nicole’s case, as with most women, it was sadly not true.
