I like this more than I expected so far. True confession: I don't like sports. Never have, never will. So I probably wouldn't have read this if friends hadn't said how good it is first. And that it's dark. I love dark. But if it continues the way it begins, I will definitely like this book. It hints at enough to leave me curious and says enough to make me intrigued.

"Maybe he was already dying, his stupid soul fading from his short body in preparation for a brutal end." Gahhhh I love this book.

Eh yup ^_^ And it's pretty messed up but I liked it exactly because of that, I think

For someone who wrote the fucked up shit that you did I'd say you should be able to handle this just fine. The sequel is even better.
lol dude, it's the messed up part of it that I love so fucking much. I can't even handle how awesome the subtle show of Neil's lifelong reaction to abuse is. The way he hovers just out of range of Wymack's hands, doesn't meet his eyes; the way he tries to protect himself and has such a dismal outlook because he knows he has no future and yet you see his temper at times. Oh and the part where (view spoiler) LOVED IT. I even went over and made my friend read that part alone XD I was like READ THIS IT'S AWESOME :D and then she said it was chilling and liked it, and then when I'd read further and could start to describe various abuses and such, she got this face and was like "Oh no. This sounds interesting but I couldn't read it." and meanwhile I'm sitting over here giddy like "Bitch, BRING IT ON! :D"
I have to stop rambling atm because I want to get back to reading.
Whoa wait I just registered-- the sequel is BETTER? omgggg excited! Well I'm still only about halfway through the first book but if it keeps going the way it's going I'm probably going to 5 star this thing.
Oh you are EVIL! But life has steeled my heart against puppy dog eyes and crying kids. (Else my kids would walk all over me, the little creeps).
lol CURSES. It was worth a try.You reminded me though, today my coworker suddenly gasped, "Ais!" in a wondering tone and was looking down the hallway. It was the tone I associate with adorable puppies and I was halfway on my rolling-chair way to peering around the cubicle wall when she continued, "___ brought her kid today! Ohh, I haven't seen him in months!" My momentum got me to the wall where I peeked around for about 0.2 seconds, enough to see there was indeed a kidlet down the way, and then I rolled back to my desk because I already had stopped caring. But if it had been a puppy I'd have been falling out of my chair to get down there for some snuggling.
Funny how that works. And that there's a distinct tone that means, "I just saw something cute" but that the 'cute' in question is so subjective to the viewer.
AH! I knew you would have liked this! I find it a bit manga-like, you know, and not only because of Riko, but there's something in the plot that says to me: hey I could be a manga or an anime. If you know what I mean.
Oh yeah I suppose it could. I hadn't thought of that. But it has all the right elements for it. It could kind of be Kuroko no Basket meets Totally Captivated.Well, what I understand of Kuroko anyway. I haven't actually watched it.
