- As a woodworker, I can say that walnut has high acidity, and is one of the few species too toxic for mulch.

It was like having one big buddy-read with hundreds, even thousands, of people. - Of course, the glasses... otherwise he'd be totally unrecognizable... a regular Clark Kent.

- Yuck! Voldemort magic apparently doesn't sit well in a wand's belly.

- I don't find it strange at all. Harry's dreading death, after all.

- Huh, I thought Voldemort was more proficient in non-verbal spells.

Frankly, unless you're talking about sapwood, walnut is much too dark a wood to bring out the grain much once a finish is applied. Really, it's no more remarkable than birch or maple or even poplar (if color isn't an issue). In terms of North American domestics, I've always preferred cherry. Of course, walnut's a premium species, and so she'd likely be inclined to something costly, aristocrat as she is.
