I didn't love this book. It might have been the reader on the audiobook, but I found the central character, the grandmother, whiny and snobby. I thought maybe that was Stegner's point, but I haven't found any reviews that suggest that. I also found the present-day central character annoying with his tirades against the counter culture. Still, Stegner's descriptions and my interest in life in the 1880s keep me reading
