I can see why this is considered a classic. Prose that reads like poetry, and evocative of all the sensory stimuli of the author's life. Can also see why this book is considered inappropriate for school reading. If I, at 36, found the account of her ordeal scarring, I can only imagine what I would have thought at 15 or 16.
