Looking to finish this off today so as to leave my weekend open for more varied pursuits (as if I didn't have three other works going already, but if I were logical about these kinds of things, I wouldn't've started TK to begin with).

Still don't know why the foreword is at the end. Were they trying to avoid giving out spoilers? This work covers a period of more than a century: any character that stuck around long enough for the reader to become emotionally invested in is dead.

A hundred pages to go for the tale, a tad less than three hundred to go for the work. The foreword's at the end for whatever reason, the afterword alone is more than a hundred pages, and there's several other contextual bits and bobs to contend with.

I'm fairly certain I'm going to rate this pretty highly overall, but quarantine has me gnawing my legs off in the pursuit of variety and holy bajeezus I cannot wait for this to be done already.

And so the last of the Red Cliff's quartet falls.

Starting V. 4, the beginning of the end (it's not April yet, but the point of the breaks is to give me time to prepare myself, and lord am I ready to finish this thing).

It's fascinating how much the narrative has shifted from feudal wars to full blown imperial colonization, complete with sensational descriptions of the indigenous people and their native lands. The latter, ridiculous and depressing as they are, make it much easier to ground oneself in the environment.

I wouldn't have expected one of the three brothers to die so early on, but so it goes.

One can tell that this translation is fairly modern by its legitimizing the usage of the word "punk" as an acceptable word.
