David Markson writes this critical narrative with such finesse. So compelling. His erudition and distinctive style is like a torch light sweeping across pictures I've only viewed myopically and in semi-darkness. Wowser.

Wheels inside wheels spiralling ever deeper... I wish I had a better memory that I could store up and recall all of this detail at will. This Twit is fleetingly enlightened.

Nick wrote: "This is why I like reading books about books, too!"DM was an early evangelist of Lowry's Volcano; his love and admiration for the book really infuses this critical review with energy and charisma. I'm reading it slowly and sporadically - savouring it. And returning to Virgil after I've written up my experience of reading The Recognitions. The Death of Virgil, Under The Volcano; Middle C and The Recognitions... They're all interconnected.
Ian wrote: "This novel would be in my top 10. I have to re-read it."Me too. Me too. Yep. A fine, fine prose style and perfectly structured novel. Re-read is imminent too. I'm reading this critical text, originally written in '78, in preparation for my return to Quauhnahuac...
Also in an attempt to better understand literature and how to write reviews.
