In the beginning of the book they mention this place to be a utopia, although it really seems absolutely nothing like that. There are way too many issues within the scythedom and within the thunderhead that make it seem like a distopia. I don’t understand why the author would try to convey the message that it is a utopia? (WS)

Why did the writer start with them having a dual perspective in the chapter instead of just having them talk separately?

How does each character feel about one another at this point in time, do they even think of each other?

Discussion Question: How would you feel if you were competing for something that could be the end of you?

Ask: What is the point of training both of the apprentices if they are just going to die?

Discussion Question: if you had to glean everyday wouldn’t it take a toll on your mental health?

Discussion Question: Doesn’t it get boring to do the same thing over and over of g leaning someone than making dinner for them. For me doing the same thing over and over gets monotonous.

Discussion Question: What is the point of Scythe Goddard training for Rowan. It doesn’t seem necessary and it seems cruel.
