Ah, yes, kill off the dynamic and likeable side character to provide motivation for the protagonist...my ultimate favorite trope.

Okay so the foreshadowing in this book entirely consists of us being in the POV characters head and having no clue what her backstory is and it’s killing me slowly

You know the situation is bad when the only decent character is the talking door knocker skull that tells Celery what a coward she is.

Arobynn in book 1: *slams Celery's hand in the door to teach her a lesson about pain, forces her to play the piano for hours on end, is supposedly the cruelest of assassin drivers*

Arobynn in book 2: *apparently sent Celery to the most hoity-toity society teashop so she could just relax and have fun for a while*

*also why was she so shocked by the glass castle if she's been to the capital before*

-Let’s talk, cousin.
-What about, cousin?
-We need assassins, cousin.
-Oh, cousin. You’re mad. *shakes head*
^the way real people talk

And right out of the gates...WHAT KIND OF ASSASSIN BREAKS INTO SOMEONES HOUSE WITH A SWOOOOORD AS THEIR WEAPON OF CHOICE?????????
