THIS BOOK: um...what's a plot?. Too many things are going on. And another thing, we get it, its set in Trinidad!! Its like the author is trying to flex on their knowlwdge of Trinidad tropes. The writing is overly descriptive to the point of being pretentious. Im calling it quits

Im only on page 5 and i find the author's hyper awareness of the characters ethnicities irksome. Is it an effort to relay the fact that Trinidad is cosmopolitan to none Caribbean readers?
Eg: 'glances at Ata's mixed race complexion'
'The indian taxi driver' 'diesel dark skinned vendors'.
