I find it odd that there were more cases where poets reached stages of celebrity in russia. Especially with its strict and ever present class structure, you'd think that more people would become well know that whern't just political leaders.

I like how the actually took a few chapters to talk at least somewhat about wha the lives of people was like. But, the authors thesis for this chapter was that peasent life was defined and created by the ruler.

I have learned a lot about russia in this so far, especially with its constant struggle to westernize. But I feel that it has talked to much about just the political leaders and not enogh on the daily life of the people.
