I think the main symbol in scorch trials is the desert. In the desert they are stranded looking for a house miles and miles away. Thomas and the gladers almost die trying to get to the house.

I think this book is more on the serious and violent side. The main character Thomas, isn’t very funny and is very serious about everything. The book is very violent, for example when the cranks shot Thomas. A crank is I disease ridden human that eats other humans which adds to the violent tone.
