In my book the protagonists are Aria, Hanna, Spencer and Emily. The antagonist is a new A who threatens the girls with their secrets. The relationship between the protagonist and the antagonist is that they are enemies. The girls absolutely hate A. A has ruined their lives by exposing their secrets like how spencer is adopted, and Hanna's soon-to-be-stepsister is pretty much trying to ruin her life.

When Ali's group of friends breaks up, she takes in a new group including Aria, Hannah, Spencer, and Emily. This is the incident that provokes Ali's decision of taking in those 4 girls.

The author uses characterization to develop the protagonist by having Hanna twitch, scream and run away when she sees a person in the woods where they find Ian's body and think it is Ian and Ali's killer right away. This means that she is scared at everything she sees and concludes immediately that anyone could be out to get her and her friends. She doesn't feel safe and someone could jump out at any moment.
