Wait... "suburban community of Langley"? Is this set in BC's Langley? It's weird, I'm so used to reading American novels, set in American towns. I don't think I've read a book with a setting in my general vicinity.

Part of me is repulsed and part of me is entertained! I love the main character, but my god does her friend group remind me of kids I used to know! I keep having to stop and laugh at my own little flashbacks.

Funny you should say that. I tried to find a list on GR, but they were mostly the Margaret Atwoods and the usual suspects. Not that they aren't great writers, but perhaps some YA and UF/PNR writers are Canadian. Then I did come up with a small list, but realized I hadn't read most of them. And my Can Content shelf is by no means complete, I just started it. Basically, the shelf is for stuff that happens in Canada so Kelley Armstrong (have you had a chance to get out to Vancouver Island near Nanaimo where I think her Darkest Powers series takes place?) also Bitten (Toronto) RJ Anderson - Ultraviolet (Sudbury) Quicksilver (Toronto). I'm sure there's more.

I'm hoping that next year I'll be able to make some plans to finally go visit. There's an amazing bookstore in Victoria called Munro's Books that I want to check out . (It boasts to be "Canada’s Most Magnificent Bookstore")
Anyways, for the last couple of months, I've really been on the hunt for Canadian books so I have a couple suggestions that might help you find more books your interested in. The CBC has a pretty extensive website focused on Canadian books, which can be sorted by genre! I haven't had a chance to explore this site myself, but it might be helpful (CBC Books) There's also the CLA's YA Fiction Award, but that's mostly contemporary stuff.
Personally, if you're looking for UF I would recommend Charles de Lint. He's one of the most prolific Canadian UF writers I've ever come across. Also, Lesley Livingston might be worth checking out. I haven't read any of her books, but she writes YA fantasy.
I'll keep an eye on your shelf. It's really become a goal of mine to actually start supporting the Canadian publishing market.
If you do get to Nanaimo, you've got to take the ferry over to Gabriola Island. So pretty. I spent a summer marooned on that island (darn ferry strike!).

I actually visited Gabriola a couple of year ago. I wish I had gotten to explore more of the island then I did, but I had the most amazing Nanaimo bars I have ever tasted there and the surroundings were just so beautiful. I'm hoping to make my next trip to Salt Spring Island.
