Now Annabeth has finally figured out how and why she should get the mark of Athena. Apparently the mark has something to do with the fact that the Romans didn't feel Athena is a very important god. Annabeth tells a story about how she saw her mom acting crazy and muttering stuff about making rome pay. She needs to find this thing and use it to save Athena, but will it cause her to burn rome?

after sailing into the mediterranian and confronting Hercules Percy and Annabeth are trying to find this mark of athena. The only problem is that Percy is afraid that he will lose Annabeth to the giants and that he won't be able to protect her. They finally made it to the River Tiber to look, but what will he tell them, and will it be good or bad news.

Leo and Hazel have just met the Greek demigod Narcissus and were able to retrieve the supplies they needed to repair the ship, but there are a few problems on the ship. There is a rivalary between Leo and Frank for Hazel, which Leo is completely clueless about, and Percy and Jason both think of themselves as leaders. Annabeth is also apparently about to destroy Rome for some unknown reason.

After 2 books Annabeth is finally reunited with Percy, but there are still many problems they need to face. For one, Leo looks so much like Sammy that Frank and Hazel aresuspicous of him. They can't stay at camp Jupiter long though, because some evil force took control of Leo and made him attack the camp. Now they're on the run.
