Favorites: I really like Hattie, the main character. She is an extremely intelligent and mature 11-year-old. She is a very self-sufficient, responsible, mature, yet adventurous. She may be shy, but she is great with people and problem-solving.

Summarizing: Hattie has a great time at the carnival. But, her family seems to be falling apart as the days go by. People are leaving the house, people are dying, and family members are turning on each other.

Prediction: Hattie will move towns. There are too many bad memories and a bad reputation of them in Millerton. And they will always be haunted by the recent death.

Argue Back the Text: I feel badly for Adam because everyone treats him very differently and as if he doesn’t matter. I want him to be treated equally and fairly even though he doesn’t function the same way as everyone else.

Connections: Hattie’s birthday party and event with her Nana were at the same time, so one event had to be cancelled. I have had plans overlap each other and had to find out a way to fix that, as Hattie did.
