It is a thoroughly satisfying moment when you eventually reach the chapter that has the same title as the book. You are like, "Fuck yeah! Let's do this"
Especially with a kickass name like "The Shadow of the Torturer"

Oops. This book is only half of the whole. Ends on a cliffhanger, for whatever the little stakes that are present in the book.
On to book #2 then.

I saw her lift the grating, and I loved her with a love that was deadly and yet not serious. Of course I went to her. I could no more have resisted her than I could have resisted the blind greed of Urth if I had tumbled over a cliff.
Damn!

I seem to understand everything that's happening and also nothing that is happening. Of course, it's tough to comprehend anything when there's an archaic or madeup word and concept, unexplained, in every page that the author wants the reader to not pursue definitively but to just understand them suggestively. That's a very tough thing to ask a reader and that audacity of the writer is what kept me interested so far.

Just as all that appears imperishable tends toward its own destruction, those moments that at the time seem the most fleeting recreate themselves - not only in my memory (which in the final accounting loses nothing) but in the throbbing of my heart and the prickling of my hair.
The title caught my eye first, then I read about how this is a lesser known fantasy/sci-fi classic, I'm sold.
