Having finished the last book, after two long weeks, I finally broke my curse of reading sections on the EXACT day that they take place. The final chapters take place on July 18th and I read them on July 17th – so goodbye curse! Surely this will rid me of my prophesied series end date of August 1st... hopefully: considering time zones it could still be in effect. Anyway, no more thinking: I've got a series to finish!

I'm finally heading into the last hundred pages of this series. I hope these last chapters will be something special, because so far the bulk of this book hasn't been. I felt similarly with a few of the previous books, so hopefully this one can follow suit and end with a bang. Minor characters have died – with likely more to come – and there's a promise of a major character death, so a lot of potential for poignancy.

A few thoughts:
(1) When I began this series I was nine books ahead of my reading challenge, now that's down to one. Totally worth it though!
(2) I've come to peace with the idea that Jason (my namesake) isn't going to get interesting. I'd hoped by this point in the series he'd show some glimmer of a personality. Sadly, not even a smidgen.
(3) My new go-to reading snack are Caramel Tim-Tams. I'm addicted to Tim-Tams.

This has been a much faster read than the previous book. I find that a bit puzzling since so far this has been rather tepid and uneventful in comparison. Really, it's been a series of paint-by-numbers monster battles. House of Hades at least had some colorful side-quests and character moments. Though things have started to ramp up around a quarter ways in. A great chapter smacked me in the face and woke me up.
