Fascinating story reads like a novel but non-fiction nonetheless. This is a must read for the understanding of what happened as the new nation pushed west and how it devastated the native peoples. Sad on so many accounts of how people and animals were treated in the early days of the western conquest. Yet beneath it all there lies some humanity in Kit Carson. A great read for sure.
