Story finished, appendix, afterword and foreword (by Thomas Pynchon) to go.

Story turned good again. Near the finish line.

Very looooong and redundant descriptions of the fictional 1984 world and how and why it came to be. This book could have used a more sever editor!

Finally, over the last 20 pages or so the story is picking up some speed!

Good so far. The bleak, war-ridden future London, the daily hardship and fears of the main character. I'm still afraid the book will get preachy and neglect its plot and characters in favour of a message to push. (This happens in Brave New World, in my opinion, and to a small degree also in Fahrenheit 451; must be a thing with dystopic novels).
